Special chair in Forensic Analytical Chemistry
Since 2018 Arian van Asten is professor in forensic analytical chemistry and on-scene chemical analysis at the van ‘t Hoff Institute for Molecular Sciences (HIMS) of the Faculty of Science (FNWI) of the University of Amsterdam. His research interests include chemical profiling of explosives, chemical identification of drug isomers, portable instrumentation for chemical analysis in the field, chemical imaging in forensic science, chemical analysis for forensic intelligence, forensic applications of comprehensive two-dimensional chromatography and the use of chemometrics in forensic science. In addition, Arian van Asten is the director of the Master’s in Forensic Science Programme, the unique 2-year MSc curriculum offered by the Institute for Interdisciplinary Studies of FNWI. Together with Maurice Aalders is forms the Board of the CLHC, the Amsterdam Center for Forensic Science and Medicine. Arian van Asten holds a PhD in Analytical Chemistry of the University of Amsterdam. Prior to his professorship he worked for 12 years at the Netherlands Forensic Institute (NFI). Much of his research is conducted in collaboration with NFI experts and he is a guest researcher at the institute
